Who Am I?
The age old existential question that we have asked ourselves since the start of time.
I'm a photographer based out of Christchurch, New Zealand with a real passion for dramatic and powerful landscapes.
Photography has been a hobby of mine for most of my life. My parents exposed me to cameras at a young age and I'm so glad they did. However, it wasn't until I bought my first DSLR in 2009 that it really started to become a passion and over the years since then it has continued to grow stronger and stronger.
Landscapes have always captivated me far more than any other subject form. Getting out experiencing nature allows me to step out of my head and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and take in some amazing scenery.
Photography allows me to share more than just a pretty scene. I like to think of a RAW image from the camera as my canvas, much like a painter. It allows me to portray emotion in the image and share more of how I felt at the time. The legend of landscape photography Ansel Adams was quoted as saying "You don't take a photograph, you make it." Words I've chosen to base my photography philosophy on.
My style has developed over the years to the point where I feel it is unique enough to call my own. Moody is probably the most used word to describe it and I feel that is apt. Darker, dramatic and ominous scenes have always grabbed my attention. A sense of impending danger or shrouds of mystery interest me far more than calm blue sky days.
Thank you for supporting me on my journey and visiting my portfolio. I really do hope you enjoy my art.
(Photography puns intended - one of my guilty pleasures)
