My travel has allowed me to see numerous amazing sunrises and sunsets, but I feel this one stood out as the best I experienced in 2018. On my fourth day on the Alaskan Marine Highway sailing across the Gulf of Alaska we had sailed out into the open ocean away from the coastline. It was around 10pm and I had shot what I thought was the best of the sunset and headed back inside to head to sleep. But the show was just getting started as I looked through the porthole and I didn't stay inside long. Being so far north in summer the days are very long and the sunsets are as well. What unfolded was a masterclass in sunset light. The sky got darker and darker but the colour just got more and more intense as it shifted from golden light to what I can only describe as Red Hour. I ended up staying out in the cold on the deck for over an hour shooting the occasional shot and just taking in the awe-inspiring sight.
